The literary tradition of Western Massachusetts runs deep, from Jonathan Edwards to Richard Wilbur, Jack Gilbert, James Tate, Martin Espada, and other treasured poets living in the region today. “There is something special happening here,” says Steve Strimer, who started Hedgerow in the spirit of San Francisco’s City Lights Book Store.
Levellers Press, a publishing house founded in 2009 by the worker-owners of Collective Copies in Amherst and Florence, Massachusetts, utilizes recent innovations in imaging technology.
Hedgerow Books, established in 2011, has published eleven books to date, which have received praise as finalists for The Eric Hoffer Award, The Montaigne Medal, The International Book Award and a “Must Read” selection by the Massachusetts Center for the Book.
